Sara Smith (formerly Pilling) is a Mount Pleasant native who loves spending time outdoors, drinking hot coffee in all seasons, and most importantly working with students. She grew up in the church and after choosing to follow Jesus in late high school she jumped into working with other high school and middle school students so that they might know the Lord.
Her years in youth ministry grew her desire to continue working with young adults and teenagers. While attending Presbyterian College and the College of Charleston, she began to discern a call to full-time ministry. She had very little idea of what that would look like but knew the Lord would be faithful and waited for Him to open the door. This waiting led her to work several different jobs in the meantime, varying from administration to research. While recognizing the fruitfulness of these jobs, she knew they didn’t quite fit right and she continued to discern what her calling might look like in the future.
While praying one day in particular, she felt a clear passion and calling to student ministry. She didn’t know when the Lord would provide an opportunity so she continued to (sometimes impatiently) wait. The Lord then led her to St. Thomas’ and she is so grateful to join this incredible church family and continue marveling at the faithfulness of the Lord!
Sara is also the guardian of a pet bunny named Duck who is very mischievous, but very cute. She teaches barre, loves audiobooks, and is almost always wearing Chacos®. She is so excited to get to walk beside and encourage the incredible students of St. Thomas’.
