Love Action Through the Arts

LOVE ACTION THROUGH ART AND THE GOSPEL

St. Thomas is working to be a paradigm-shifting hub for the Glory of God and the Blessing of the community through the powerful vehicle of music and art. We are so committed about engaging culture in this way that our Music Director, Shane Williams, is a Singer/Songwriter and National Recording artist who also has extensive leadership experience in the church and the world of worship planning and musician development within the church. This is a solid foundation and a great practice in “putting our money where our mouth is” and is also a great 1st step in our “Love Action” mission here in Mt. Pleasant.

In our 1st year, only partially of which was “official”, we engaged the community through the arts by utilizing Shane’s role as a working musician at many local clubs and venues throughout Charleston and provided live music at a number of strategic community and family events including Park West’s “41 & Friends,” Daniel Island’s Diabetes Walk, Sommerby Assisted Living, Buist Academy, Awendaw Green’s “Easter Barn Jam” (which we sponsored) as well as a number of local neighborhood outreach driven “Block Parties.” Each time we sought to bring fresh life, beauty, and the joy of the Lord through the arts and music to all engaged either as leaders, servants, or participants and were overwhelmingly blessed to witness the fruit of our labor and the Gospel of Christ being upheld at each and every event through this powerful vehicle and the leadership and servant volunteers of STAC!

We are also keenly aware that financial “love action” is sometimes required, and STAC was honored to fully commission eight Wando High School AP Arts students to create original pieces of work in their chosen medium to be displayed at and enrich the experience of all who attended the “Stations of The Cross” Good Friday Service held in the public green space of the Oak Hill shopping complex. The pieces were even publicly displayed an auctioned at a special event held later at Brickyard Plantation which featured presentations by the art students themselves explaining their inspiration for their Gospel-rich creations and lets be honest, scripture inspired original works of art from Mt Pleasant public school students should make us all smile a little bit! St. Thomas was also blessed to give 100% of our Easter Service offering to the fine arts program of Jennie Moore Elementary School!

St Thomas’ is committed to spreading the Gospel of Grace and enriching the lives of the community of Mt Pleasant through the arts and it is our “Love Action,” our duty and pleasure to engage this culture in such profound and life-changing ways!
