Read + Respond
Read Along With Us!
We are working on a chronological reading of The Jesus Storybook Bible. This week read “God sends help” and remind your children of God’s big love for us.
Read the scripture from today’s sermon, Psalm 38. Connect the reading to the story by reminding your children that God always wants to help his children be closer to him. David cried out to God for his help in the Psalm and the people waited for the Holy Spirit’s help in the story. Both are wonderful examples of the hope we have in Christ’s saving grace.
RESPONSE THROUGH ART
God’s love covers our loss. Ask your children to create a colorful drawing of some sort. The kids may use any type of color for this piece and can even create it before the service or family reading.
Talk with your children about how the colors represent the “good’ things in life, our families, friends, homes, etc. Then have each child use painters’ tape to create a cross over the artwork. You could also use any other type of tape that can be easily peeled off or some objects such as popsicle sticks or rulers to create a cross that could be colored around. Use a dark marker, crayon, or paint to cover over the colorful artwork and talk with your children about how this represents our sin and its ability to hurt us.
Finally, remove the tape or materials you used to create the cross and talk with your children about how Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross brings us hope and removes our sin.
