Read + Respond
Read Along With Us!
We are working on a chronological reading of The Jesus Storybook Bible. This week read “The sun stops shining” and remind your children of God’s big love for us. Read the scripture from today’s sermon, Psalm 51. Connect the reading to the story by discussing how God answers David’s cries for help by sending Jesus to save us all from sin.
RESPONSE THROUGH ART
Fold a paper towel in half, and then use a permanent marker, like a Sharpie, to draw a heart on both sides so that they match. Have your children use washable markers, such as Crayola’s, to make marks all over one of the hearts in a messy way. As they work, talk about sin and how it makes our hearts messy. Then fold the “clean” heart on top of the messy one and talk with your children about how we can pretend our hearts are clean, but they are messy because we are sinners. Finally show the children a pan or bowl of water and drop the paper towel in. As you move it around, the washable marker that represents our sin will “wash away.” Tell your children that the water symbolizes Jesus washing our sins away through his death. Thank God for the gist of Jesus and remind your family that we can cry out too him just as David did in Psalm 51.
