ST THOMAS’ STUDENT MINISTER

Description:

This person is responsible for overseeing all aspects of ministry to students 6th through 12th Grade. This ministry’s job is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities :


MIDDLE SCHOOL (6th to 8th Grade)

SUNDAY MORNINGS

Recruit and train Middle School students to assist with Sunday volunteer needs.

WEEKLY

Group:

  • Design, coordinate, and lead Middle School Bible studies (either co-ed or single gender).
  • Attend sporting, arts, or other events involving students.

Individual:

  • Design and implement one-on-one discipleship ministry.
  • Be available as needed to meet with Middle School Students who have pastoral needs.

Personnel:

  • Identifying, recruiting, and training of adult middle school ministry volunteers.
  • See attached Abuse Prevention Policy for the necessary training
  • Parish Administrator will be responsible for processing applications and background checks.
  • Scheduling volunteers
  • Sending reminder emails and texts to volunteers.

Parental Support:

  • Advise parents of children in this age group on ways they can disciple their children.
  • Materials, Websites, Bibles + more
  • Communicate with Parents keeping them updated on relevant Middle School Ministry information.

HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRY (9th -12th Grade)

SUNDAY MORNINGS

Recruit and train Middle School students to assist with Sunday volunteer needs.

WEEKLY

Group:

  • Design, coordinate, and lead High School Bible studies (either co-ed or single gender).
  • Attend sporting, arts, or other events involving students.

Individual:

  • Design and implement one-on-one discipleship ministry.
  • Be available as needed to meet with Middle School Students who have pastoral needs.

CONFIRMATION

Lead confirmation class for students 6th grade - 12th grade interested in being confirmed.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Assist Rector in selecting and training Children’s and Students’ Life Group Shepherds.
  • Serve as Life Group Shepherd for these groups until adequate volunteer Shepherds are selected.
  • Recommend Bible studies/curriculum to Students’ Life Group Shepherds.
  • Create and submit materials budget for this ministry.

  • Lives a life consistent with the ethical requirements of Christ.
  • Assents to St. Thomas’ Core Theological Commitments and Core Values.
  • Assents to the 39 Articles.
  • Aligns with and supports St. Thomas’ vision to make Ambassadors for Christ where we live, work, play and learn, especially in the Arts community.
  • Highly relational.
  • Ministry description is in alignment with personal vocational calling and skills.
  • Ability to inspire and organize volunteers.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Joy in managing people and processes.
  • Knowledgeable about resource people, curriculum, and other materials.
  • Committed to faith formation for students.

COMPENSATION

  • Annual Salary: $30,000 (potential for raise after year one)
  • Pension: 5% matching after one year
  • Call phone allowance: $1,200 paid by church directly to the wireless provider

TIME REQUIREMENT

  • 40 Hours a week
  • Attend weekly team meetings (1.5 hours)
  • Attend yearly staff & vestry retreat (two days).
  • Attend yearly staff planning (one day).
  • 4 Sundays off per year (July 1 to July 1)
