Fall Sermon Series

Hope in Uncertain Times

Worship Service Pre-Recorded on You Tube

Leader: Blessed be God:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

And blessed be his Kingdom, now and forever.  Amen!

Leader: Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid:  Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

READING: Exodus 14:10-20

SERMON — The Rev. Hamilton Smith

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Leader: Let us now reaffirm our faith in the words of the ancient baptismal confession, the Apostles’ Creed.

Celebrant: Do you believe and trust in God the Father?

I do.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

Celebrant: Do you believe and trust in Jesus Christ?

I do.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Celebrant: Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit?

I do.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Leader: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Almighty and most merciful Father;
We have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep,
We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts,
We have offended against your holy laws,
We have left undone those things which we ought to have done,
And we have done those things which we ought not to have done,
And there is no health in us.
But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us miserable offenders;
Spare those, O God, which confess their faults,
Restore those that are penitent,
According to your promises declared unto us in Christ Jesus our Lord;
And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake,
That we may hereafter live a Godly, righteous, and sober life,
To the glory of your holy Name.
Amen.

PRAYERS

Leader: The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Leader: Let us pray.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those
Who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

Leader: We pray for this community of St. Thomas’ Church, that by the power of your Holy Spirit, you would so knit us together, that our love and care for one another might be a catalyst for those around us to trust in Jesus and find true belonging in his body.
Lord, in your mercy,

Hear our Prayer.

Lord, in your mercy,

Hear our Prayer.

Leader: For our brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted for their faith, that many would come to faith by their witness. (Please pray for a Church or Country silently or aloud.)
Lord, in your mercy,

Hear our Prayer.

Leader: For our nation, for those in authority, and for all in public service, that they may impartially administer justice, uphold integrity and truth, and restrain wickedness and vice.
Lord, in your mercy,

Hear our Prayer.
